Introducing Oaklore’s Limited-Edition Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey
Charlotte, North Carolina (June 4, 2025) – North Carolina’s craft spirits innovator, Oaklore Distilling Co., proudly unveils its limited-edition Oaklore Story Series: Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey (SPR: $99.95 for 750ml). Bottled at 92 proof, this 7-year-old, non-chill filtered small batch American Whiskey boasts a rich character and vibrant color, achieved through additional aging in freshly dumped, domestic port wine barrels. With only 90 bottles available, this Double Gold Medal-winning whiskey (96 Points, New York International Spirits Competition) can be purchased online at www.oakloredistilling.com, powered by Speakeasy, or at Oaklore’s Charlotte-based tasting room.
A Sensory Masterpiece for Whiskey Enthusiasts
This exquisite sipping spirit captivates from the first whiff. On the nose, it offers an aroma of dark cherry and light rye spice, transitioning into deep brown sugar notes. The whiskey’s rich amber hue, derived from port wine barrel aging, mirrors its flavor profile: a bold opening of thick, sweet fermented fruit with a lingering light spice on the palate. The finish is complex, with notes of dark raisin, herbs, and white pepper, making it a standout choice for whiskey connoisseurs and a thoughtful Father’s Day gift.
Craftsmanship Rooted in North Carolina’s Ideal Aging Conditions
Oaklore’s Port Cask Finish Rye features a mash bill of 70% rye, 20% corn, and 10% malted barley, consistent with the brand’s signature 6-year-old straight rye whiskey. Crafted at Oaklore’s sister distillery in North Carolina, the whiskey undergoes initial aging for six years in a combination of char #2 and char #3 new white oak barrels. North Carolina’s Piedmont region provides an ideal humid subtropical climate for barrel aging, with frequent temperature swings that ensure a consistent, richly developed whiskey profile compared to other American whiskey regions like Kentucky.
After reaching peak maturation, the straight rye is transferred to port wine barrels, previously used for nearly two decades in Solera Method port wine production. These barrels impart additional depth during a 12- to 18-month finishing period, resulting in a whiskey with unparalleled richness and character.
“Our Story Series whiskeys are meticulously crafted in small batches and designed to showcase a range of styles – whether that’s a cask strength release or a spirit finished to perfection like our latest Port Cask Finish Rye. However, the one thing they all have in common is a rigorous taste-testing process among the Oaklore team to ensure that every whiskey in the Story Series reflects the quality, flavor, craftsmanship, and patience needed to make an exceptional aged spirit,” said Thomas Bogan, Oaklore Co-Founder.
The Story Behind Oaklore Distilling Co.
Founded in 2017, Oaklore Distilling Co. emerged from a shared passion for whiskey and community. The name “Oaklore” pays homage to the oak staves in each handcrafted barrel, each with its own unique history, integral to the whiskey’s aging process.
