Bourbon Heritage Month Day 17
After a great weekend of Kentucky Bourbon Festival and Bourbon & Beyond, we close the night with a pour of Belle Meade Reserve Bourbon. Have you ever seen this bottle sitting on your local store shelf? I know I had and constantly overlooked it. This is bourbon that has been distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for Nelson’s Green Brier is one that I might have passed on for too long. Let’s dive in!
Just the facts
- Style: Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- Proof: 108.3
- Mashbill: High Rye
- Age: Undisclosed
- Price: $69.99
Jake’s Tasting Notes: Belle Meade Reserve
Nose: Rye spice meets the nose, with pepper, clove and pine. There is a hint of lemon, vanilla custard and oak after the spice.
Palate: The palate is a balance of sweet and darkness. The vanilla, brunt sugars, and lemon zest start at the tip of your tongue. The more it lingers the leather, oak and rye spice consume your palate. It is a very bold pour.
Finish: Drying finish with oak and leather flavors.
Closing Thoughts:
At 108.3 proof, you get a ton of flavor with this bourbon. You are getting sweetness that is balanced with deep complex flavors. While it does carry a higher price point (around $70.00), it can be a versatile bourbon on your bar for a neat pour to one hell of a cocktail base.
