Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage 20 Year x Snarkitecture Hits U.S. at $350

Bowmore, Islay’s oldest licensed distillery, has teamed up with New York design studio Snarkitecture on the limited-edition Captivo Collection, two 20-year-old single malts. Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage comes to the U.S. in November at $350. Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit is a global travel retail exclusive.

Snarkitecture co-founder Alex Mustonen drew on Islay’s landscape and Bowmore’s No.1 Vaults, one of the world’s oldest maturation warehouses, to design “portal” artwork for each bottle.

Mustonen says: “Stepping into the world of whisky is a first for Snarkitecture. I drew similarities between how Bowmore’s whisky is made, and how I approach an architectural environment. In architecture, spaces and objects invite people to look again and question their assumptions. I discovered whisky-making shares a similar philosophy, rewarding time, patience, and curiosity.”

He continues: “I think about my projects as moments for people to cross thresholds into spaces that feel unlike day-to-day experiences. I approached the Captivo creative in a similar way, with the artwork acting as a portal into the world of Bowmore; into something extraordinary.”

Bowmore Captivo Oak Voyage (U.S.) – 20 years, 50.8% ABV, $350

Aged for two decades in American oak ex-bourbon casks, then in American oak Oloroso sherry butts.

Nose: Salted toffee, dried fruit, orange peel, tobacco, honey
Palate: Dark cherry, candied orange, Manuka honey, cool eucalyptus, toasted oak
Finish: Vanilla sweetness and a whisper of campfire smoke

Bowmore Captivo Sherry Cask Pursuit (travel retail) – 20 years, 51.8% ABV:

Spanish oak Oloroso and American oak ex-bourbon casks, finished in an Oloroso hogshead. Notes of honeycomb, mango, cracked pepper, smoked toffee and charred mango.
