Frankfort, KY – September 30, 2024: Castle & Key Distillery proudly announces the release of its Cask Strength Wheated Bourbon. This celebration marks a decade since the revitalization of the historic Old Taylor Distillery. At 52.8% ABV (107 proof) and priced at $60 SRP, this seven-year-aged bourbon is the oldest age-stated product from the distillery. It marks the second wheated bourbon in Castle & Key’s portfolio. This one is made from a mashbill featuring 73% non-GMO white corn, 10% white winter wheat, and 17% malted barley.

This milestone release will be available in 24 states including California, Kentucky, New York, Texas, and Florida. The bourbon is crafted from hand-selected barrels laid down during Castle & Key’s inaugural year of production.

A True Expression of Cask Strength Wheated Bourbon

According to Brett Connors, Lead Blender at Castle & Key, the new release offers “the most genuine and pure representation of its mashbill.” The use of white winter wheat, which differs from traditional red wheat, gives the bourbon a unique flavor profile. Connors describes the bourbon as a “wheater that highlights a depth and maturity of seven years while maintaining the sweet roundness of the white winter wheat.”

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Orange zest, brûléed peach, pound cake, baked nutmeg
  • Palate: Pastry dough, red apple, black pepper, mango, walnut, white sage
  • Finish: Oatmeal cinnamon cookie with lingering dried cherry and chai

With only 109 barrels used for this release, it’s a coveted bottle among distillery staff and bourbon enthusiasts alike.

Honoring a Decade of Bourbon Heritage

Co-Founder Will Arvin reflected on the journey of restoring the Old Taylor Distillery: “In 2014, when we began restoring the distillery, we had a forward-thinking approach. The new Cask Strength Wheated Bourbon is a testament to our vision and the hard work of our team.”

Castle & Key invites bourbon fans to celebrate their 10-year milestone with this limited release.
