Patreon Member Review By @CoreyEngineer on Twitter
On episode 147 of our podcast, FEW Spirits Master Distiller Paul Hletko mentioned an innovative product called “cold cut”. Our Patreon Member Corey recently came across a bottle and wrote this review to tell you more about it.
Just the Facts: FEW Spirits Cold Cut Bourbon
According to the label on the bottle, the story here is that this is cask strength FEW Spirits bourbon, proofed down to bottling strength (or “cut”) using cold brew coffee.
Proof: 93
Age: undisclosed
Mash Bill: undisclosed
Style: at its base, their bourbon is a “straight” bourbon, meaning that it is at least 2 years old. Adding cold brew technically makes this no longer a bourbon, though, which is why the label says “Bourbon Whiskey With Cold Brew Coffee”.
Cask: N/A
Corey’s Tasting Notes: FEW Spirits Cold Cut
Color: amber brown
Nose: brown sugar, chocolate, rye, molasses, corn, and a general “toasted” note
Palate: corn influence very briefly, followed by a rich and toasty coffee note. The sweetness doesn’t carry through much; what you’re left with is a nice texture for 93 proof. Digging deeper, you’ll find baking spices and a faint floral note.
Finish: Mostly a short finish other than a lingering toasty and gently bitter coffee note.
Closing Thoughts
If you’re a bourbon drinker that also happens to be a coffee lover, this is a fun pour to sip and ponder on.
