Horror-themed whiskey brand debuts an 86-proof single malt aged five years in Oak IPA barrels, premiering at BrewzleFest August 29
LOS ANGELES — Filmland Spirits has unearthed its first American Single Malt: The Malted Mummy, an 86-proof Straight American Whiskey made from 100 percent malted barley and aged five years in Oak IPA barrels. The release will premiere at BrewzleFest on August 29, 2026.
“After years as a niche product, American Single Malt is the bright spot on whiskey shelves; it has been one of the fastest-growing categories of whiskey in the world for several years now and has great potential in the US,” said Filmland Spirits Founder and CEO Troy Bolotnick. “We procured these barrels from a distillery in Iowa several years ago, and after letting them age in Kentucky, we felt now was the time for The Malted Mummy to join the Filmland family.”
The category’s momentum backs him up: the American Single Malt Whiskey market was valued at $846.3 million in 2025 and is projected to reach $1.5 billion by 2035, growing at a 5.9% CAGR.
A B-Movie Whiskey Brand
Launched in 2022, Filmland Spirits builds each release around an original B-movie concept, paired with custom bottle design and movie-poster-style labels. The brand’s bourbons and ryes have each won a Gold or Double Gold medal, and the same blending team is now behind its first single malt.
The Malted Mummy centers on Raiya, an Egyptian beauty slain in the grain by a jealous queen, whose spirit is reanimated thousands of years later by a pour of whiskey as she roams the Midwest seeking to quench her thirst and reclaim a lost love. The trailer is available here.
Tasting Notes
The Malted Mummy is aromatic and sweet on the nose, with scents of sugar cookie. Lemon zest and honey come through on the palate, leading to a long, enveloping finish layered with sourdough, leather, and smoke.
“The years spent in the Oak IPA Barrels have added slightly sweet honey notes that bourbon fans will enjoy,” Bolotnick added. “The Brewzle community has been very supportive of us, so we are excited to give them the first sip.”
