Lost Lantern: Single Cask #13

Cedar Ridge: 5-year-old Straight Bourbon Whiskey (Purchase Here)

This single cask of bourbon hand selected by Lost Lantern will have some high expectations after trying the malted rye in my previous review. When speak of bourbon though Cedar Ridge has one important thing going for them, what’s that you might ask? The Iowa based distiller is located in the state which produces more corn than anywhere else. These corn experts should know how to make a good whiskey!

Just the facts:

Proof: 123.8

Age: 5-years-old

Mash bill: 74%Iowa corn, 14% rye and

12% malted barley

Style: Bourbon

Jake’s tasting notes Of Cedar Ridge 5-year-old Bourbon:

Nose: a very fresh bouquet of dew soaked flowers, it really reminds me of spring time right off the bat, as you continue to push for additional notes vanilla and baking spice begin to shine through.

Palate: while the nose may be spring time the palate is definitely fall. Nutmeg, Cinnamon, a hint of pumpkin pie flavors.  This might be the pour for thanksgiving if you don’t want to drink your traditional Wild Turkey for the holiday.

Finish: extremely long, with the Iowa hug

Closing Thoughts:

The Malted Rye review coupled with this bourbon will definitely make Cedar Ridge a distillery that I will be keeping a close eye on.
