The Lost Monarch: Bourye Done Right

Bouryes are always some of my favorite whiskies because they are typically the best of both worlds. I can’t wait to dive into Redwood Empire Whiskey blend of the Lost Monarch!

Just the facts:

Proof: 117.2

Age: Undisclosed

Mash bill: 55%  Straight Rye Whiskey and 45% Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Style: Blend of Straight Whiskey

Jake’s Tasting Notes: Lost Monarch

Nose: At first nose, you get a feel for the creamy notes that will ensue on the palate.  You are met with creamy caramel, refreshing citrus, and some additional herbal tea notes.

Palate: While the nose doesn’t bear strong rye characteristics, the first sip is big bold spice. It shines lemon steeped in hot tea. There are following notes of honey, cinnamon, and clove.

Finish: short to medium.

Closing Thoughts:

If you want a hot toddy, I don’t know if there is a more perfect whiskey.  You don’t need anything else other than this pour and a lemon slice to replicate the traditionally winter drink. As far as bouryes go, this one is super solid, though it might not be my number one.
