Lux Row Distillers New Rebel 100 6 Year Review

In one of our recent episodes of Bourbon Lens podcast, we touched on Rebel 100 6-year with Master Distiller John Rempe. If you want to hear what John had to say, you can listen to the podcast here. Once you have heard what he has to say, dive into my thoughts below on this latest release.

Just the Facts: Rebel 100 6-Year

  • Style: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Mashbill: 68% corn, 20% wheat, 12% malted barley
  • Proof: 100
  • Age: 6 Years
  • Price: $59.99

Tasting Notes: Rebel 100 6-Year

Nose: Sweet cornbread, some notes of hay, vanilla, and caramel. This is a very simple but approachable nose.

Palate: The hay note continues on the palate, then traditional wheated bourbon notes start to shine. Lemon zest, vanilla, and oak begin to take over the remainder of the sip. It is very light on the palate, but packs a punch of flavor.

Finish: There is a fading milk chocolate note on the finish with a touch of cherry.

Closing Thoughts:

As John shared on the podcast, and I tend to agree with him, Rebel 100 6-year shows the versatility of the whiskey. It brings the characteristics you would expect out of a wheated bourbon at a good price point. A fun blind tasting would be to compare this release versus Wilderness Trail Wheated Bourbon.
