Michter’s Sour Mash Toasted Barrel Finish Whiskey Review

What We Know about Toasted Sour Mash

The US1 expressions, so named to honor Michter’s heritage harkening back to America’s first whiskey company, consist of some of the finest single barrel and truly small batch whiskeys available. Distilled to Master Distiller Dan McKee’s exacting specifications, no US1 whiskey is ever released until Dan and the Michter’s tasting panel deems it ready.

The Toasted Barrel Series feature three distinct bottles: Bourbon, Rye, and Sour Mash Products.

How this whiskey was consumed….

This whiskey can be consumed in a variety of ways. Preference for me when it comes to this one is neat due to its lower proof point.

Tasting Notes:

Nose

Big punch of fruit right up front (apples and citrus), as you continue to nose around the glass you pick up the charred oak, follow by a slight hint of caramel.

Palate

It starts sweet and rounds out with a nice oaky finish that leaves you wanting more as it finishes over your palate. As you take your second drink the fruit notes start to open up leaving you with a licorice taste.

Overall Thoughts

I (Jake) personally like this. I am a big fan of the regular sour mash product that they put out on shelves. It is a distinct taste.

Rating

I like it, I would buy it again if I had the opportunity.
