BLANCO, TEXAS (August 14, 2024) — Milam & Greene Whiskey proudly announces the release of the Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon, the fourth cask-strength whiskey in their esteemed 2024 Wildlife Collection. This limited-edition bourbon is a testament to the environmental influences of the Texas Hill Country, showcasing how the region’s unique climate shapes the flavor of aging bourbon.

This year, the Wildlife Collection highlights the captivating birds of Texas, with the Roadrunner taking center stage. Proceeds from this exclusive release will support Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation initiatives, preserving Texas’s natural beauty for future generations. The Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon will be available starting at 3:00 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, exclusively on the Milam & Greene Whiskey website and in their Blanco, Texas tasting room.

A Tribute to Texas’s Unique Climate

Heather Greene, Milam & Greene Whiskey CEO, explains, “Each single barrel release in The Wildlife Collection is a case study of the impact on the Texas heat cycle in developing flavors. The Milam & Greene rickhouses are not temperature controlled, so when it gets hotter, the whiskey expands into the pores of the barrels and reacts with the oak to extract compounds. As the weather cools, the liquid contracts and the whiskey seeps out of the wood, creating intense, complex aromas and flavors that make each barrel of this whiskey unique.”

The Story Behind Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon

Named after the roadrunner, a ground-dwelling bird native to the deserts and scrublands of the southwestern United States and Mexico, this bourbon reflects the resilience and speed of its namesake. The Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon was aged in Tennessee for six years and seven months before being transported to Texas, where it endured another year and a half in the extreme conditions of the Texas Hill Country.

Rikk Munroe, Milam & Greene Whiskey distillery manager, adds, “Roadrunners hang out during the warm summer months patrolling the grounds at our distillery in Blanco for small snakes and lizards. We’ve affectionately named our favorite bird of the bunch ‘Meep Meep’ as she loves to show off her blazing speed for visitors.”

Tasting Notes and Whiskey Details

This limited cask-strength Roadrunner Single Barrel Bourbon, pulled from cask #507, is a remarkable whiskey bottled at 130.1 proof (65.05% ABV). It boasts a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. After aging for a total of eight years, one month, and twenty days, the whiskey reveals a beautiful auburn hue and is loaded with aromas of leather, raisin, dark fruit, marshmallow, and almond. The palate is rich with powerful cherry, vanilla, maple syrup, rye bread, and malted candy flavors, finishing with long, sweet notes of maple syrup.
