New Riff’s Latest Releases Truly Exemplify Their Name

New Riff is back with their latest limited edition offerings. They are taking malting to a whole new level with the release of the T50 Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Aroostook Malted Rye. Each of these pours are uniquely different from the standard offerings and I would argue these are two of the best whiskies I have ever had from them.

Jake’s Tasting Notes: New Riff Maltster T50 Crystal Malt

Color: Light Hay

Nose: Corn sweetness, balanced by the malted rye which leans to darker spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Faint hint of citrus shines through on the back end.

Palate: Sweet, citrusy, and drying.  This drinks very much like a dry white wine to me with more proof.

Finish: Medium, really impacts the tip of the tongue.

Closing Thoughts

Honestly, I haven’t always been the biggest fan of New Riff. It is fine whiskey but not something I would reach for constantly. With these two releases, my opinion has changed quite a bit. These latest releases are quite tasty, especially the Aroostook. If you are a fan of malted rye whiskey, pick this up and do a blind tasting against Old Potrero; you won’t regret it!
