SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Nikka Whisky has announced the return of Miyagikyo Single Malt 10 Years Old, the flagship single malt from its Miyagikyo Distillery. The highly anticipated release — the first age-statement Miyagikyo expression since 2015 — arrives at $174.99 SRP with just 1,572 bottles available nationwide at 45% ABV.

The launch follows the successful 2022 return of Yoichi Single Malt 10 Years Old and marks another major milestone in Nikka’s ongoing effort to restore age-statement expressions across its portfolio.

A Decade in the Making

Nikka suspended most of its age-statement whiskies in 2015 due to a shortage of mature stock. Over the following decade, the brand continued releasing distinctive non-age-statement expressions while carefully reserving whisky batches for future use. The return of Miyagikyo 10 Years Old is the direct result of that patience and planning.

What’s in the Bottle

Building on Miyagikyo’s signature apple-like fruitiness and silky mouthfeel, the 10 Years Old adds enhanced citrus notes drawn from ester-rich whisky batches. The maturation program centers on remade casks with subtle influence from sherry casks and new American oak, producing gentle wood accents and delicate vanilla nuances throughout.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Apples and citrus with a subtle sweet vanilla note
  • Palate: Rich and well-balanced, ripe fruit sweetness harmonizing with malt
  • Finish: Gently sweet with a slightly bitter, pleasant fade

“With the 10-year-old expression, we wanted to reveal a new dimension of Miyagikyo’s signature character,” says Emiko Kaji, Nikka Whisky Education, Global PR Leader. “The result reflects both a decade of maturation and our vision for Miyagikyo’s future – honoring the distillery’s heritage while showcasing the confidence and craftsmanship of a new generation.”

New Look, New Era

The release arrives in refreshed packaging that trades Miyagikyo’s signature deep rose color for a deep forest green — a nod to the natural landscapes surrounding the distillery. The label is crafted from Japanese washi paper, with a delicate beige tone communicating maturation and refinement.

In parallel, Yoichi Single Malt 10 Years Old will also receive updated packaging beginning with the 2026 production batch, adopting traditional Japanese indigo blue to reflect the sea surrounding the Yoichi Distillery.

On the Market

“For longtime fans of Nikka Whisky, the return of Miyagikyo with an age-statement is a continuation of a story that has been decades in the making,” says Brian Radics, CMO of Hotaling & Co. “We’re proud to help bring such a significant moment for Nikka to consumers across the United States.”
