Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII Press Release
ST. LOUIS (Aug. 12, 2024) – Ross & Squibb Distillery, based in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, proudly announces the release of Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII, the eighth annual edition in its acclaimed limited-edition bourbon series. This year’s release pays tribute to the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, offering a medley of three rare, high-rye bourbons aged between 10 and 17 years. Bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV), Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII will be available in limited quantities starting in September at a suggested retail price of $99.99 per 750mL bottle, just in time for National Bourbon Heritage Month.
Ross & Squibb Distillery continues the legacy of George Remus, famously known as the “King of the Bootleggers,” by crafting premium bourbons that reflect the spirit of the Roaring 20s. Master Distiller Ian Stirsman, along with his expert blending team, has incorporated a higher proportion of high-rye bourbon than in previous editions, enhancing the flavor complexity of this year’s release. The blend comprises 9% of a 17-year-aged bourbon with 21% rye, 24% of a 10-year-aged bourbon also with 21% rye, and 67% of another 10-year-aged bourbon with 36% rye.
This unique combination of extra-aged bourbon delivers an aroma of cherry, candied pecans, and a hint of leather, followed by flavors of maple syrup, cherry, and fig. The finish features lingering notes of vanilla, oak, and baking spice, offering a rich and memorable tasting experience.
“We wanted to push the boundaries with this eighth edition,” said Stirsman. “By increasing the high-rye content and using non-chill filtration, we’ve preserved the whiskey’s viscosity and mouthfeel. We also conducted blind tastings at various proofs, ultimately choosing 101 proof for its superior balance and flavor. These changes, combined with our history of using the finest barrels, ensure that Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII will be a standout.”
This release follows the highly successful Series VII, which earned Gold at the 2024 SIP Awards, and Series VI, which won a Double Platinum medal at the 2023 ASCOT Awards. Series V was rated 98 points by Tasting Panel magazine in 2021.
