They may not have been, but when you read the name of this next whiskey you might think it:  Jack Daniel’s Straight Tennessee Rye Whiskey Finished in High Toast Maple Barrels We are finishing off our toasty weekend of tastings with the High Toast Maple Barrels and I can’t wait to dive it!

Jake’s Tasting Notes: Jack Daniel’s Straight Tennessee Rye Whiskey Finished in High Toast Maple Barrels

Color: Amber

Nose:  What I expected is not what I smell don’t you hate that?  I wanted to smell big pancake and syrup notes.  Instead, I am met with a powerful floral notes and cured meats.  Think more BBQ than breakfast.

Palate:  There is a good, toasted oak and vanilla that show up in the front.  The backend is backyard BBQ which reminds me of some of notes I got recently on Little Book Chapter 6.

Finish: Short finish, with the vanilla note hanging out for the long haul.

Closing Thoughts

While I was expecting breakfast, I got a BBQ and I am not saying that is a bad thing.  I believe this rye whiskey is for the backyard BBQ’er 100%.  But in the battle of the two newest limited releases the High Toasted Oak Barrel wins for me!
