One of Louisville’s best bourbon bars, The Silver Dollar, gets a refreshed look and menu for its re-opening on August 23rd!
LOUISVILLE, KY (August 23, 2024) – Louisville’s iconic bourbon bar, The Silver Dollar, is thrilled to announce its grand reopening with a refreshed space and innovative new menus. Starting Friday, August 23, guests can once again enjoy this celebrated venue, which has been a cornerstone of Louisville’s bourbon scene since 2011.
“We are eager to welcome Louisville back to The Silver Dollar to create more memories in our newly revamped space,” said Brian Downing, the new owner and general manager. Downing brings a decade of experience in the whiskey industry and is committed to enhancing the guest experience at this beloved establishment.
A Tribute to Bakersfield and Bourbon
The Silver Dollar is well-known for its homage to 1950s Bakersfield, California, with a nod to the city’s honky tonk culture. Its iconic sign, boasting “whiskey by the drink,” signals the bar’s commitment to offering one of the most curated whiskey and bourbon collections in Louisville. The revamped menu continues this tradition with fresh takes on classic cocktails, all crafted with high-quality ingredients.
New Menus and Industry Nights
The updated food menu features a blend of southwestern fare and modern culinary trends. Highlights include birria tacos, a house-made black bean burger, and an heirloom tomato sandwich. The Silver Dollar will also introduce industry nights on Sundays, starting at 10 p.m., where guests can enjoy late-night food and drink specials.
A Revitalized Space with Vintage Charm
The renovations at The Silver Dollar have enhanced the ambience while preserving the building’s rich history. The dining room features an expansive bar and intimate booths made from wood reclaimed from the historic Stitzel-Weller distillery. A vintage record player behind the bar spins a mix of classic and neotraditional country music, adding to the nostalgic vibe. Outside, the patio offers ample seating with vintage furnishings, refinished tables, vibrant artwork, and colorful lighting, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests.
A Legacy of Excellence
The Silver Dollar’s building, originally the oldest operating firehouse in the country, retains much of its historic charm, including a firepole and a hand-painted map of Louisville once used by firefighters. Over the years, The Silver Dollar has garnered numerous accolades, including being named one of the “10 Best Whiskey Bars in America” by GQ and one of “Louisville’s 8 Best Bourbon Bars” by Thrillist.

The Silver Dollar is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations can be made through Tock.
