Woodford Reserve has announced the launch of Woodford Reserve Barrel Strength Rye, a limited-edition release that marks the distillery’s first-ever high-proof rye whiskey.
Pre-Prohibition Mash Bill, Modern High-Proof Expression
Crafted by Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall, Barrel Strength Rye uses Woodford’s traditional 53% rye mash bill, the same recipe as standard Woodford Reserve Rye, but bottled at the natural batch strength rather than the brand’s familiar 90.4 proof.
“Barrel Strength Rye honors the legacy of America’s original rye whiskeys, where spice and tobacco take the lead, layered with fruit, floral, and subtle sweetness,” said McCall. “This high-proof expression amplifies those flavors, delivering pronounced spice and depth.”
