BARDSTOWN, KY (September 18, 2025) – 1792 Bourbon, produced at the historic Barton 1792 Distillery, proudly announces the release of 1792 Cognac Cask Finish—the brand’s first permanent cask-finished bourbon expression. Building on the foundation of its acclaimed Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, this new release brings a rich and refined French twist to one of America’s best-loved bourbons.

“We’ve experimented with a range of premium cask finishes, but Cognac immediately stood out for how naturally it complements our Small Batch Bourbon,” says Ross Cornelissen, Barton 1792 Master Distiller. “Extended finishing in Cognac casks reveals dessert-like notes and layered complexity, while showcasing the full-bodied character of the Small Batch Bourbon and its signature high-rye recipe.”

Craftsmanship Meets Cognac: Aged Bourbon, Reimagined

The journey of this expression begins with the same mashbill, fermentation, and distillation process as the award-winning 1792 Small Batch Bourbon, which was recently crowned “Best Kentucky Small Batch Bourbon” at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards.

After primary aging in charred American White Oak barrels, the bourbon is transferred to hand-selected ex-Cognac casks for at least six months of secondary maturation. These casks are placed on the top floors of Barton’s rickhouses, allowing heat to enhance interaction between wood and spirit, enriching the bourbon with soft fruit notes and a refined sweetness.

Tasting Profile: Dessert-Like Complexity at 95 Proof

  • Aroma: Deep, luxurious notes of dark cocoa and rich caramel
  • Palate: Layers of ripe stone fruit—including plum, apricot, and cherry—alongside Bananas Foster, creamy vanilla, and a rich mouthfeel
  • Finish: Sweet oak lingers, rounding out a balanced and elevated bourbon experience
