As the calendar turns from August to September, bourbon drinkers rejoice as National Bourbon Month is finally here after the long, hot summer. Here at Bourbon Lens we celebrate by featuring 30 bourbons in 30 days. Our first review features the 2024 Yellowstone 101 Limited Edition.
But before we dive into the review, let’s unpack National Bourbon Heritage Month. National Bourbon Heritage Month is an observance in the United States that calls for celebration of bourbon as America’s “Native Spirit” during the month of September. On August 2, 2007, the US Senate declared September 2007 as “National Bourbon Heritage Month. The bill, sponsored by Republican Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky, passed by unanimous consent. The resolution calls for consumers who enjoy bourbon to do so responsibly and in moderation. The bill reinforces the 1964 concurrent resolution of Congress that “recognize” Bourbon whiskey as a distinctive product of the United States. It was a resolution for one year, 2007. It needs to be passed again each year, or in a permanent form to be continually officially observed.

Tasting Notes: 2024 Yellowstone 101 Limited Edition
Nose: Hint of nuttiness, grape, vanilla, barrelhouse must, and plum/fig on the backend of the nose.
Palate: Rich and drying palate. The base of the liquid speaks first in this blend. We talk about the art of blending and finishing whiskey in our latest feature of Limestone Branch if you want to know more about how Stephen B. Beam approaches finishing. Back to the bourbon. This blend is very traditional, nutty with hints of vanilla, and barrel must. Once you experience the traditional bourbon you notice the balance of the cognac and brandy casks. Rich plum/fig that is balanced by brighter red fruit, tobacco and leather.
Finish: Slight drying and rich.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, the 2024 Yellowstone 101 Limited Edition is a buy for me. Granted, this pour is one of the only ones I have gone bourbon hunting with my dad for over the years. Because of this, it has that sentimental value every year!
