Dixon Dedman’s Seventh Collectibles Series Release Celebrates an Iconic Hip-Hop Classic.
2XO Whiskey and American whiskey blender Dixon Dedman have teamed up with The Sugarhill Gang for “Rapper’s Delight” – The Hip-Hop Blend, the seventh release in 2XO’s Collectibles Series. Inspired by the group’s influential 1979 single “Rapper’s Delight,” the new bourbon will be available nationwide beginning this September with a suggested retail price of $79.99 for a 750ml bottle.
The Hip-Hop Blend combines two proprietary bourbon mash bills: a high-rye mash bill containing 35% rye and a moderate-rye mash bill containing 18% rye. Dedman double-barrels the high-rye bourbon into new #3 and #4 charred oak barrels for nine to 12 months. That whiskey makes up 90% of the final blend, with the remaining 10% coming from the moderate-rye bourbon. The resulting whiskey features notes of maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar and baked apples, followed by a mild, silky and peppery finish.

2XO’s Two Times Oak Blending Process
The 2XO name refers to “Two Times Oak,” the additional oak exposure used in Dedman’s blending process. According to the brand, the additional interaction with oak builds sweetness while balancing the spice derived from rye-forward mash bills, creating distinctive flavor and complexity in each expression.

2XO Collectibles Series Continues
The Hip-Hop Blend follows previous Collectibles Series releases including The Vinyl Blend, The Sneakerhead Blend, The Kiawah Blend, The Tribute Blend, The Innkeeper’s Blend and The Phoenix Blend. Several of those releases have received recognition from publications and competitions including Whisky Advocate, Wine Enthusiast and the ASCOT Awards.
The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” was released in 1979 and became one of the early rap songs to reach a mainstream audience. The song reached the U.S. Top 40 and has subsequently been recognized by Rolling Stone, VH1 and NPR. It was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014.
