We are excited to announce an upcoming feature of Catoctin Creek Distilling Co. on the Bourbon Lens podcast. Catoctin Creek is known as the makers of The Virginia Rye Whisky℠. The founders are a husband-and-wife duo; Scott & Becky Harris. They’re releasing a couple new whiskies this spring and we’re looking forward to tasting them. The next release is a Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey featuring whisky aged for 4 years in the distillery’s original 30 gallon barrel configuration. Valentine’s Day marks 14 years for Catoctin Creek Distilling Co. and it’s the same day they are set to release their annual edition of Rabble Rouser Bottled in Bond Rye Whisky.
Catoctin Creek Rabble Rouser Bottled in Bond Rye Whisky
Distilled from 100% rye whisky, aged for four years, and bottled at 100 proof, Rabble Rouser is Catoctin Creek’s most sought after limited, annual release – and was just named one of MAXIM’S Best American Rye Whiskies in 2022. This expression is particularly special because it’s the last release of this line aged in Catoctin Creek’s original 30-gallon barrels. They were aged in 30-gallon barrels because, back in the day, that’s all that co-founder/chief distiller Becky Harris could carry when it was just her handling the distilling. She has now shifted to 53-gallon barrels.
According to the distillery, Rabble Rouser’s extensive tasting notes provide an unruly, rustic profile that pays homage to the history that rye whisky played in the state of Virginia, including nectarines, clover, honey, deep earthy spice, forest, sandalwood, uncured bacon, white peaches, peanuts, and a hint of mesquite.
Catoctin Creek’s Rabble Rouser is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) and will sell for $99/750mL. It is set to be available through a limited number of select fine retailers throughout the distillery’s national distribution footprint beginning Tuesday, Feb. 14. It will also be on sale in Catoctin Creek’s online store for curbside pickup or direct shipping in Virginia only.
