Jake’s Tasting Notes:
Barrell Bourbon – Tale of Two Islands
Nose: A delightful nose of molasses, tropical fruits and hint of salinity. After nosing and tasting 30 different bourbons this month, this is one has one of the best aromas.
Palate: The palate is sweet like a traditional island rum. Great, creamy mouthfeel with notes of molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, and peach highlight the first sip. The cinnamon and rye spices are balanced by the salinity and chocolate notes for a tasty palate.
Finish: Lingering sweet notes of brown sugar and molasses.
Barrell Bourbon – Amburana Finish
Nose: one of the most subtle Amburana finishes, which I love. Honey, cinnamon, and faint cigar box make for an appetizing nose.
Palate: It’s a creamy bourbon with a nice mouthfeel. The pour starts off with a hint of cigar box and cream soda. The bourbon has a hint of grass, vanilla, pumpkin and nutmeg. It has all the fall feels!
Finish: light, creamy finish that fades to a cream soda float
Closing Thoughts
I’d first like to say that this is my favorite Amburana finish ever! Barrell Bourbon absolutely crushed this finish. However, the Tale of Two Islands edges out the Amburana finish. It just hits my palate in all the right ways! If you can get either of these, you won’t be disappointed!
