Limited-Edition Set Features Five Historical Whiskeys From the Prohibition Era
FRANKFORT, KY (January 15, 2025) – Buffalo Trace Distillery proudly announces the second edition of its Prohibition Collection, an annual limited-edition release that pays homage to the whiskeys legally produced and sold during the Prohibition era. This year’s collection features five unique bottles, each reflecting the rich history of brands produced at the Distillery, known during Prohibition as George T. Stagg Distillery, under the leadership of President Albert B. Blanton.
Commemorating Prohibition-Era Whiskeys
This release celebrates the following historical brands:
- Mirror Brook: A 100 proof, bottled-in-bond blend of Kentucky Straight Whiskeys, delivering ripe cherry, oak, and rye spice with a creamy vanilla finish.
- Very Oldest Procurable (V.O.P.): An uncut, unfiltered barrel-proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon featuring rye spice, toasted oak, vanilla, and cherry notes.
- Anderson’s Belle: A 100-proof, bottled-in-bond wheated bourbon with caramel, maple, vanilla, and charred oak, rounded out by dried fruit undertones.
- Old Fashioned Mountain Corn: A 110-proof Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey highlighting sweet corn, toasted oak, and caramel sweetness.
- Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey: A 125-proof Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey with vanilla, toffee, leather earthiness, and a kick of rye spice.
A Legacy of Innovation and Tradition
“As the oldest continuously operating distillery in America, Buffalo Trace Distillery carries a legacy built by pioneers like Albert B. Blanton, who guided it through Prohibition,” said Harlen Wheatley, Buffalo Trace Master Distiller. “The Prohibition Collection honors that history while embodying our long-lasting commitment to crafting exceptional whiskey.”
Explore the History Behind Each Whiskey
Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director at Buffalo Trace Distillery, added, “The second edition of the Prohibition Collection invites enthusiasts to explore and discuss the history behind these whiskeys. “Faithful updates to significant brands that came to Buffalo Trace to age during Prohibition, these new expressions embody our motto of ‘Honor Tradition, Embrace Change. After releasing the first set, we were thrilled to see lots of conversation around these previously-forgotten brands. We look forward to hearing more forgotten stories as these new expressions are released into the world.”
Limited Edition Packaging and Cigar Collaboration
The collection is housed in a custom wooden display case featuring historical images of the distillery. Each 375ml bottle reflects Prohibition-era packaging, including a cut-out for doctors to apply prescriptions for medicinal whiskey.
In celebration of the release, Buffalo Trace has partnered with the Scandinavian Tobacco Group to create a limited-edition cigar set. This exclusive offering includes five unique blends, presented in 750 individually numbered boxes mirroring the whiskey collection packaging. The cigar set is available online at Cigora and through select distributors.
