Old Forester brings back Extra Old, a highly sought-after limited-edition whisky from its celebrated 117 Series. First introduced in February 2022, this whisky is crafted through an extended double-barreling process that enhances its complexity and flavor.
What Makes Extra Old Unique?
This expression begins with Old Forester’s popular 1910 whisky, which undergoes an additional 18 months of aging in a secondary barrel. The result is a whisky with a richer flavor profile and more pronounced caramel notes.
“This expression showcases the exceptional flavors that can come from the second barrel, and how we can layer the flavors we achieve from maturation through the double barreling process,” said Master Taster Melissa Rift. “Whisky lovers can taste the history captured in this bottle.”
A Nod to History
Old Forester 1910 pays homage to the October 22, 1910 fire at the distillery’s 117 Main Street location. To save the whisky from fire damage, a batch was re-barreled in new barrels, creating what would become the iconic Old Fine Whisky. The Extra Old expression builds on this legacy by extending the second-barrel aging process, allowing the whisky to absorb deeper flavors from the heavily charred oak.
Tasting Notes
AROMA: Chocolate-covered cherries, burnt caramel, and graham cracker with hints of barrel smoke and creamy butterscotch.
FLAVOR: A buttery, balanced palate with spiced pear and apple, layered with chocolate and cinnamon graham cracker notes.
FINISH: Warm spiced cinnamon, apple skin, and lightly charred oak create a long, flavorful finish.

Old Forester Extra Old is available in 375 ml bottles at 93-proof. Starting January 22, 2025, a limited quantity will be available:
