Abraham Bowman French Oak Series – Too Good To Be True?

Discovering A. Smith Bowman Distillery was a pleasant surprise when Buffalo Trace vanished from local shelves. Embracing the Sazerac family, I opted for the Small Batch and Single Barrel, setting off on a delightful journey. Fast forward to podcast Episode 118 with Master Distiller Brian Prewitt, reigniting my curiosity about Virginia’s distillation scene. The release of the Abraham Bowman Oak Series sparked my interest anew. Thanks to Sazerac, I had the chance to explore and share my thoughts.

Just the facts: Abraham Bowman Oak Series: French Oak

Tasting Notes: Abraham Bowman Oak Series: French Oak

Nose: Very traditional on the nose. Caramel, vanilla, fresh strawberry, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

Palate: Fresh berry compote with orange zest. Very floral after the first sip (which isn’t surprising given the oak varietal). This is a fresh and fun palate that hits everything I need in bourbon.

Finish: Slight barrel astringency with lingering berry and vanilla.

Closing Thoughts

This pour is crazy good. I am making sure as I come to the end of the year I have enough left to ensure it is in a blind for Bourbon Lens Top Whiskey of 2024. If you can get your hands on it, we’d would love to know your thoughts!
