Angel's Envy Unveils Imperial Stout & Amburana Bourbon

Louisville-only bourbon marries craft beer barrel finishing with Brazilian Amburana wood — hits shelves at the distillery September 10

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Angel’s Envy will release its newest Distillery Series expression on September 10: a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished in Imperial Stout beer barrels and Brazilian Amburana wood. The limited bottling, available exclusively at the brand’s downtown Louisville distillery, pays tribute to the city’s craft brewing scene through an unconventional dual-cask finish.

Master Distiller Owen Martin developed the expression, layering the roasted richness of Imperial Stout barrels with the bold spice notes of Amburana wood — a combination the distillery says delivers a whiskey that’s balanced rather than overpowering.

“The Distillery Series gives us the freedom to explore new ideas while staying true to what makes Angel’s Envy special,” Martin said. “For this release, I wanted to see how the roasted richness of Imperial Stout barrels could work alongside the bold spice of Amburana wood. The goal wasn’t to make something louder. It was to create a balanced, layered, and unique pour that introduces drinkers to a flavor combination they may not have experienced before.”

The Blend

The whiskey is a blend of stocks aged 6 to 7 years total. Most of the blend spent between 6 and 24 months finishing in Imperial Stout barrels, with a smaller component finished for one month in Brazilian Amburana wood. The result combines roasted malt and chocolate notes from the stout casks with the warming baking spice and sweetness Amburana wood is known for.

Tasting Notes

Bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV), the whiskey opens with cinnamon toast cereal, light florals, dusty cocoa, and icing on the nose. The palate brings fresh churros, mulled cider, and chocolate orange, finishing with creamy ganache, bright fruit, and lingering Mexican hot chocolate.

Availability

Roughly 18,000 bottles (375 mL) will be released, available only at the Angel’s Envy Distillery in downtown Louisville starting Thursday, September 10, 2026, priced at $54.99. Guests attending the Kentucky Bourbon Festival will get an early preview of the whiskey alongside Martin before the official release.

The Distillery Series is Angel’s Envy’s outlet for small-batch experimentation, developed exclusively for visitors to its Louisville distillery. Each release explores a new finishing technique, barrel pairing, or local story while staying rooted in the brand’s finished-whiskey philosophy.
