Announced September 2, 2026, the release retains Basil Hayden’s familiar high-rye mash bill and approachable 80-proof profile while introducing additional layers of flavor from specially selected French oak Cognac casks.

The new expression is the first Basil Hayden release to reimagine the brand’s light and approachable high-rye bourbon profile through a finishing process designed to introduce flavors from another spirits category. The bourbon is finished in French oak casks that previously held Cognac for 20 to 25 years, bringing decades of Cognac maturation character to the whiskey.

Basil Hayden Cognac Cask Reserve is designed around the concept of “something familiar made new.” The Cognac cask finish adds warm caramel sweetness and dried fruit to the bourbon, while Basil Hayden’s characteristic subtle spice, vanilla and oak remain part of the overall profile. Eighth-generation master distiller Freddie Noe said the release reflects Basil Hayden’s effort to explore new possibilities while maintaining the character consumers associate with the brand. “French Cognac casks let us take our Basil Hayden signature profile that people know and love and put a twist on it,” Noe said.
