Hard to believe way back in Episode 49 that one day we’d be crafting our own unique whiskey with one of our earliest podcast guests, Seth from Broken Barrel Whiskey. What started as mobile podcast set up in a “sketchy” hotel on the side of a Kentucky highway, has developed into an incredible collaborative whiskey: Bourbon Lens X Broken Barrel Rare Americana which is now on sale at Shared Pour.
We worked with Broken Barrel to craft an original Oak Bill of finishing staves. This seven year American corn whiskey features a blend of 75% Sauternes cask staves and 25% French oak staves. This one has a sweet and candy-like nose plus hints of dark molasses, dusty corn, and baked cinnamon apples and pears. On the palate, the sweetness gives way to a burnt sugars with a darker charred barrel and oak finish that is dry, warm, and lingering. The proof and oak bill influence guarantees a lengthy finish that will have you going back for more. Clocking in at 120°, this one stands up to a drop of water or a cube if that’s your style.
