A Tribute to Early 20th-Century Whiskey – Available March 2025
Chattanooga, TN (March 2025) – Chattanooga Whiskey has announced the latest release in its award-winning Experimental Single Batch Series – Batch 043: Pre-Prohibition Style. This commemorative whiskey celebrates a decade of innovation at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery, which, in 2015, became the city’s first legal production distillery since Prohibition.
Batch 043 is an homage to early 20th-century whiskey, meticulously crafted to mimic the bold, complex flavors of pre-Prohibition bourbon.

Recreating the Essence of Pre-Prohibition Bourbon
“For this Experimental Batch, our goal was to make a high malt whiskey that was evocative of a specific place and time: Chattanooga, Tennessee, pre-Prohibition,” said Grant McCracken, Founding Distiller.
To achieve this, Chattanooga Whiskey’s distillers used:
✔ Heritage-style grains – A harder variety of yellow corn, slow-toasted barleys, spelt, and rye malts
✔ Old-world fermentation methods – A two-part process using an overnight sour mash and multi-strain yeast fermentation to replicate traditional whiskey cultures
✔ Traditional pot distillation – Double pot distilled, mimicking pre-Prohibition techniques
✔ Unique barrel aging – Aged for over four years in custom toasted and charred oak barrels, mimicking 19th-century coopering methods
Finally, the whiskey was bottled unfiltered at 110 proof, reflecting the bold, undiluted whiskey styles of the early 1900s.
“What began as a project to recreate a whiskey style eventually became the blueprint of a dream whiskey from another era. If our distilling team had a time machine, we’d go back and make a whiskey like this. Then again, who says we didn’t? And who says this isn’t that whiskey?” – Grant McCracken, Founding Distiller
