Chivas Regal 18 – My First Ever Blended Scotch Whisky

Have you tried Chivas Regal 18 Gold Signature blended Scotch Whisky? I hadn’t, while I have seen this pour almost every time I got to liquor store the term blended scared me away. While the term is common in Scotch Whisky it has been given a negative connotation here in the states in favor of terms such as marrying or comingling. I believe because of the way it is talked about in the states I have avoided these blended products. However, it is time to break through and try something new, lets discuss!

Just the Facts:

Jake’s Tasting Notes: Chivas Regal 18

Nose: Touch of smokiness, balanced by red fruit (raspberry). As it continues to open up aromas of mocha show up to mellow the smokiness.

Palate: The smokiness from the nose holds over, red fruit and dark chocolate begin to come through as your drink giving a slight bitter note that plays well with the smoky notes.

Finish: Long finish full of a soft mocha note.

Closing Thoughts

Chivas Regal 18 reminds me of one of my favorite American Single Malts the Colkegan. The subtle notes of smoke give you a depth a flavor that are truly balanced by the bitter dark chocolate notes that were prevalent throughout the pour. Chivas Regal 18 will not be an every day pour. However, this would be a great pour over a cube for a dinner party where you might have more than one pour.
