World’s Favorite Italian Liqueur Honors Italian Dolcevita Lifestyle
New York, NY – April 2, 2025 — Disaronno, the world’s favorite Italian liqueur, proudly announces its 500th anniversary celebration. This historic milestone highlights five centuries of heritage, style, quality, and innovation, embodying the timeless essence of Italian Dolcevita. Festivities will span over 160 countries where Disaronno is enjoyed, connecting cultures and blending tradition with modernity through its iconic allure.
A Legacy of Italian Craftsmanship
Disaronno Originale, known simply as Disaronno, holds the title of the world’s top Italian liqueur per the IWSR 2023 – International Wine & Spirit Research. Its distinctive “square cap” bottle, crafted in the 1970s by a Murano glassmaker, became a global symbol of Italian style. In 1999, the bottle was showcased at the Louvre in Paris during the exhibition “L’objet du Design, 99 objets pour un siécle,” cementing its status as a design icon.
“Disaronno’s 500th anniversary is a milestone that celebrates our rich heritage while embracing the future. As a proud ambassador of the Italian Dolcevita, Disaronno continues to embody elegance and taste, seamlessly blending tradition with modernity. This anniversary is not just a reflection of our past but a testament to the unmistakable Italian style that will carry us forward for generations to come.” – Marco Ferrari, CEO of Illva Saronno Group
The Origins of Disaronno
The Disaronno story began in 1525 during the Italian Renaissance. Artist Bernardino Luini, a student of Leonardo da Vinci, painted “The Adoration of the Magi” at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Miracles in Saronno. Inspired by a local innkeeper’s beauty, he chose her as his Madonna. In gratitude, she gifted him a flask of amber-colored liqueur made from a secret recipe. This act of kindness birthed the Disaronno legend. By the 1600s, the Reina family rediscovered the recipe, passing it down until the early 1900s when they opened a workshop in Saronno. In 1947, Illva Saronno was founded, and today, Disaronno Originale reaches over 160 countries.
