Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Launches 54-Year Old Highland Park Whisky

Taylor Duncan's 54 Year Old Highland Park Single Malt

On September 10, 2024, independent bottler Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Ltd revealed a landmark release. They introduced the 54-Year-Old Highland Park Whisky from 1970. This is part of their prestigious Accolade Range. This whisky comes from the same year that The Beatles released their iconic album Let It Be. It is now one of the oldest Highland Park whiskies ever released by an independent bottler. It is also one of the most aged to hit the market.

Duncan Taylor’s Aged Highland Park Whisky from Orkney

The 1970 Highland Park whisky is a rare gem. It has been aged for over half a century in a sherry-seasoned oak cask. This aging process offers a glimpse into traditional Scottish whisky-making. The whisky was matured in Duncan Taylor’s vaults in Huntly. It was exposed to the unique influence of Orkney’s salty sea winds and floral peat. The mash bill is 100% malted barley, ensuring the purest expression of traditional Scottish whisky.

Duncan Taylor Highland Park Tasting Notes: A Complex and Luxurious Experience

  • Nose: Layers of leather, caramel, marzipan, red fruits, melon, and soft, lingering smoke.
  • Palate: A blend of cherries, apricots, peat, nutmeg, woody notes, wet stones, and mineral sea air.
  • Finish: Creamy with delicate spice, reminiscent of crème brûlée and red apple tart tatin.

This 54-Year-Old Highland Park is a truly decadent dram. It offers a luxurious, creamy finish that lingers with a complex balance of sweet and spicy notes. Its deep, multi-faceted profile makes it a rare experience for seasoned whisky collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Accolade Range and Exquisite Presentation

The Highland Park 1970 is the first release under The Accolade Range, Duncan Taylor’s portfolio of rare and preeminent spirits. CEO Shawn Smith described this whisky as “the last collection for our rare and aged whiskies this year.” This description showcases the brand’s dedication to excellence. The bottle is presented in an elegantly designed cabinet. It features a hand-crafted dagger decanter with a dynamic wave. This is accentuated by an illuminated copper plinth. Each bottle comes with a certificate of authenticity. It also includes a handling kit complete with gloves. This ensures the utmost care when handling this prized spirit.

Pricing and Availability

The 700 ml bottle of Highland Park 1970 is priced at £22,000 (approximately $28,562.60 based on current exchange rates). The limited-edition release will be sold exclusively through The Spirits Embassy, where whisky enthusiasts can purchase this rare expression online.
