Four Roses Bourbon is releasing Experimental Series No. 003: Chestnut, a limited-edition bourbon finished in Japanese chestnut wood barrels. It is the third installment in the distillery’s Experimental Series.

The release starts with Four Roses’ six-year-old OBSK recipe. Master Distiller Brent Elliott moved the mature bourbon into 250-liter chestnut barrels with varying toast and char levels, sampling each barrel throughout finishing. The team tested and emptied barrels one at a time as each reached its ideal profile, with finishing times ranging from 5 to 11 weeks.

The result is bottled at 104 proof. Four Roses describes a rounded, creamy palate with vanilla bean, pear and ripe cherry, plus sweet toasted wood and hints of baking spice.

Experimental Series No. 003 goes on sale November 20, 2026, exclusively at the Four Roses visitor centers in Lawrenceburg and Cox’s Creek, Kentucky. It comes in a 375ml bottle for $55.
