Garrison Brothers Distillery, the first and oldest legal whiskey distillery in Texas, will host a game-day Tailgate on Saturday, October 17 (gates open 8 a.m.) celebrating the release of its PX and Oloroso Finished Cask Strength Single Barrels. Guests can watch the Texas Longhorns vs. Florida Gators game, with kickoff around 11 a.m. CT.
The Release:
In June 2026, Garrison Brothers launched its Ranch Reserve Series with two inaugural eight-year bourbons finished in PX and Oloroso sherry casks. For the Tailgate, the distillery is releasing cask strength single barrels drawn from that same production lot — bourbons aged four years in new American oak, then four more in first-fill PX or Oloroso sherry casks. Master Distiller Donnis Todd held back 27 standout barrels for this release: 14 PX barrels ranging from 122.0 to 135.2 proof, and 13 Oloroso barrels ranging from 124.6 to 136.7 proof.
Roughly 3,000 bottles of each expression were produced. 984 bottles of each will be available at the October event, with the rest allocated to select retail partners nationwide. Each bottle is labeled with its specific barrel number and proof, and the bourbon is bottled uncut, unfiltered and non-chill filtered.
“Every now and then, a few barrels tell you they’re not meant to be blended away,” said Donnis Todd, Master Distiller, Garrison Brothers. “These PX and Oloroso ‘troublemakers’ had the depth, structure, and cask-strength character we look for in a true standout, so we bottled them exactly as they came out of the barrel.”
At the Tailgate:
The family- and dog-friendly event features Frito Pie, chili cheese hot dogs, brisket nachos, cornhole, yard Jenga and live music, with the Whiskey Shack and Gift Shop open all day.
Price & Location:
The single barrels sell separately for $189.99 per bottle. Garrison Brothers Distillery is located at 1827 Hye-Albert Road, Hye, Texas 78635. To book a tour or learn more, visit garrisonbros.com/our-distillery.
