Hirsch is a name that you might be familiar with if you are a whiskey fan. While this isn’t the AH Hirsch of critical acclaim, the team at Hotaling & Co. have resurrected the brand and created three distinct offerings: Horizon, Bivouac, and Cask Strength. Today, we are checking out Hirsch Horizon.
Just the Facts:
- Proof: 92
- Age: 95% – 4 years 9 months / 5% 6 years 2 months
- Mash bill: 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley
- Style: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Jake’s Tasting Notes: Hirsch Horizon
Nose: buttered popcorn and orchard fruits (it’s a simple nose, not overcomplicating this review)
Palate: Corn sweetness, pear and apple, balanced with a hint of cinnamon and finished with breadiness from the barley.
Finish: Full flavor, medium on the palate. The bright fruit notes linger the longest.
Closing Thoughts:
This has been a fun pour. This bourbon has a feel as if it is quintessential Kentucky Bourbon. If you are looking for a new Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, it may be time to see what’s on the Horizon with Hirsch.
