The initiative expands Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea® Bourbon series and aligns with Holland America Line’s America’s 250th celebration.

Holland America Line and Jefferson’s Bourbon have announced a partnership to age bourbon barrels across a cruise fleet, marking the first time bourbon will mature aboard multiple cruise ships.

Barrels Set Sail Across Entire Fleet

Beginning in March 2026, one barrel of Jefferson’s bourbon was loaded onto each ship in the Holland America Line fleet, with all 11 ships expected to carry a barrel by the end of April 2026. Each barrel will age for a minimum of six months, exposed to varying climates, ocean air, and continuous motion, factors expected to influence the bourbon’s flavor, character, and finish.

Onboard Experiences and Limited Releases

Guests will be able to follow the aging process through onboard activations, including educational tastings focused on how maritime conditions shape the whiskey. Once matured and bottled, each barrel is expected to yield approximately 150 to 300 bottles, which will be made available exclusively to cruise guests in 2027 as part of the line’s single-barrel program.

“This partnership with Jefferson’s Bourbon is another way we’re setting ourselves apart through experiences that are too good to hurry through,” said Drew Foulk. “Aging bourbon aboard our ships and offering it exclusively back to guests later reflects our commitment to beverage programs that are shaped by the journey itself.”

Jefferson’s Ocean Program Expands to Cruise Ships

The concept builds on Jefferson’s existing Ocean Aged at Sea program, originally developed by Trey Zoeller. The brand has previously aged barrels on cargo and fishing vessels, completing 35 voyages prior to this collaboration. The partnership represents the first time the program has been extended across a cruise line’s full fleet.

“We are thrilled to partner with Holland America Line to embark on a truly unique adventure,” said Trey Zoeller. “By placing Jefferson’s Ocean barrels on their cruise ships, we’re diving into a quest to see how different routes and voyages (meaning different climates and agitation) influence the taste, smell, and mouthfeel of our whiskey. I truly appreciate Holland America’s dedication to experimentation and innovation, allowing us to craft a one-of-a-kind experience for their guests. The whiskey they enjoy will be exclusive to their ships, available only once the voyage is complete. Jefferson’s Ocean is a true treasure to savor and share.”

Part of Broader America’s 250th Celebration

The collaboration is part of Holland America Line’s broader America’s 250th programming, which includes partnerships with other American brands and themed travel experiences. Among these is a July 4, 2026 “America’s 250th Celebration: Stars and Stripes” cruise departing from Boston, featuring onboard events and stops at historically significant U.S. cities.
