Is Eagle Rare The Best Everyday 10 Year Bourbon?

Bourbon Heritage Month Day 25

As we close in on the last five days of Bourbon Heritage month we take a look at Buffalo Traces Eagle Rare. This bourbon was my first ever bottle kill and excited to re-examine this staple bourbon. Let’s dive in.

Just the facts Eagle Rare

  • Style: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Mashbill: Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1
  • Age: 10
  • Price: $35.99

Jake’s tasting notes: Eagle Rare

Nose: On the nose it smells like an old fashion. Cherry and citrus meet the nose up front and fades to oak, chocolate and macadamia nut.

Palate: very light mouthfeel up front. Drinks like a cocktail. Cherry, oak, macadamia nut, with a hint of citrus. As the sip fades you are left light chocolate note.

Finish: short finish that is the pop of flavor you are looking for in a 90 proof bourbon

Closing thoughts

This drinks very much like a cocktail. I believe this is a staple for everyone’s bar back if you can grab it at retail. It’s one of the best values in bourbon.
