Is the “Apprentice Batch” Quintessential Booker’s?

In our latest review we team up with known Booker’s Bourbon lover and Bourbon Lens Patreon member Corey White (@CoreyEngineer) to talk the latest batch. We haven’t seen each other notes so it will be very interesting to see what we both have to say about the second Booker’s release of 2023. As always let’s dive in!

Just the facts:

  • Proof: 125.5
  • Age: 7 yrs, 1 mo, 2 days
  • Style: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Suggested MSRP: $89.00

Corey’s tasting notes: “The Apprentice Batch”

Color: sunset orange
Nose: peanuts, Chex mix, baking spices, vanilla, leather, oak
Palate: quintessential Booker’s. Peanut-centric, with heat upfront that softens to an oily smooth back end.
Finish: This bourbon has a long finish with a fantastic “Kentucky hug” that just keeps going.

Jake’s tasting notes: “The Apprentice Batch”

Nose: Brown sugar, honey, lemon, touch of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg

Palate: Salted peanuts, tobacco, leather, pepper and clove

Finish: Finish was chocolate covered peanuts. Reminded me of a peanut butter cup with a lot of warmth to it.

Closing thoughts

This pour does open up quite a bit after your first drink. Make sure you spend time with this pour and enjoy. I have to agree with Corey this is the quintessential Booker’s Bourbon and if you have it on your shelf make sure you enjoy because they don’t always make them like this!
