Jack Daniel’s Innovates with Rye Whiskey and Not Bourbon?

It is getting toastier with our latest review of Jack Daniel’s Straight Tennessee Rye Whiskey Finished in High Toast Oak Barrels.  When you think of Jack Daniel’s you probably think of Jack and Coke or just good ole No. 7 Tennessee Straight Whiskey.  I am here to tell you that they are much more than just the famous black and white label. Whether it is the waves they are making with their Coy Hill releases or their tinkering with American Single Malt. They continue to not rest on their status as a world whiskey powerhouse.  I hate to admit but I have never had their rye whiskey which some claim to be their best distillate, I am excited to dive into this first toasted finish.

Just the Facts:

Jake’s Tasting Notes: Jack Daniel’s Rye Whiskey Finished In High Toast Oak Barrels

Color: Syrup

Nose:  Rye Spice right up front; cinnamon and citrus.  Gives way to nutmeg, vanilla, and marshmallow

Palate:  The toasty-ness is right on the back like a crème brulee.  It is a perfect taste of fall and tailgate, there is a subtle smoke note mixed with the nutmeg, vanilla and marshmallow that is killer.

Finish: Medium, good body and mouth feel allows it to hang around for a while.

Closing Thoughts

This is a perfect fall rye whiskey.  I don’t know it will get much better than this, however the high toasted maple barrel rye is starring me in the face for my next review.  While this isn’t highly distrusted this might be one of the tastiest and fun pours I have had in a while.
