New Barrel Proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey Showcases Historic Maturation Site.

Jack Daniel Distillery has announced the release of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye, the latest addition to its annual series. This limited-edition expression is a Barrel Proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey aged in one of the first barrelhouses built atop Tanyard Hill, a historic site near the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Aged in One of Lynchburg’s Oldest Barrelhouses

The Tanyard Hill site, located beside the famed Coy Hill, features four barrelhouses constructed in the early 1960s. The whiskey used in this release was distilled in November 2015 and matured in Barrel House 1, where it endured years of Lynchburg’s distinct seasonal temperature swings. The result is a deeply complex Tennessee Rye that represents one of the oldest maturation locations on the distillery grounds.

Master Distiller Chris Fletcher on the New Release

“The Special Release series has been a great way for us to showcase our craft of whiskey making here in Lynchburg,” said Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher. “We’re fortunate to have barrel houses at so many unique locations that produce deep, rich, and complex whiskeys. Like Coy Hill was before, Tanyard Hill has been one of the hidden gems for locals familiar with the distillery grounds. We’re now bringing more people into this secret and can’t wait to see what our friends think of this special Tennessee Rye Whiskey.”

Tasting Notes and Mash Bill

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Tanyard Hill Rye is made from the distillery’s Tennessee Rye Whiskey mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley. It is charcoal filtered before aging in new American white oak barrels. According to the distillery, the new rye whiskey offers aromas of dark fruit and sweet oak, with flavors of candied mint, dark chocolate, and baking spice, finishing with notes of clove, sweet tobacco, and oak.

Limited Availability

Bottled at Barrel Proof ranging from 130.2 to 148.8 proof (65.10% to 74.40% ABV), Jack Daniel’s Tanyard Hill Rye will be available across the U.S. beginning this month in limited quantities. It is bottled at 700mL with a suggested retail price of $79.99.
