Laphroaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky has announced the launch of the 2025 Càirdeas release, Lore Cask Strength, now available in the United States and globally. This highly anticipated annual bottling was first offered to Fèis Ìle attendees and Friends of Laphroaig members before making its way to wider distribution.
“With this year’s limited-release cask-strength bottling, fans can now experience it just as the whisky makers do – straight off the cask and bottled at 59.6% abv.”
A Marriage of Five Distinct Casks
The 2025 Càirdeas Lore Cask Strength combines five different casks, each adding layers of character to the whisky. Laphroaig explains that this approach creates a non-chill filtered Scotch with added depth and impact.
“It’s a journey from zesty, salty high notes to the warmth of spices, wood and pepper of Islay peat,” the brand notes. This variation on the classic Lore expression offers enthusiasts a new way to explore Laphroaig’s hallmark flavors.
A Tradition of Friendship and Fèis Ìle
The term Càirdeas means “friendship” in Gaelic, reflecting the bond between Laphroaig and its global community of fans. Each year’s Càirdeas bottling is timed to coincide with Fèis Ìle, the legendary Islay whisky festival, where Friends of Laphroaig gather to celebrate the brand’s heritage.
“Càirdeas is a special release created with the Friends of Laphroaig members in mind,” the brand states, underscoring the collectible nature of this annual offering.
Tasting Notes: Classic Islay Character with Extra Intensity
- Aroma: Sweet and herbal with bold peat smoke. Fruity notes of apricot, peaches in syrup, and lemon cream mix with vanilla fudge, coconut, fresh-cut grass, and basil. Subtle tobacco and white pepper add complexity.
- Palate: A powerful explosion of peat and salty sea spray, balanced by peppery spice, lemon zest, salted limes, caramel, and herbal tones of mint and tea leaves. Hints of cumin, cloves, and ginger linger with an antiseptic edge.
- Finish: Long-lasting, with citrus sweetness and an enduring phenolic aftertaste.
The whisky is matured in ex-Bourbon, European oak, Oloroso sherry barrels, and quarter casks, creating layers of depth for an authentic Islay experience.
