Boulder Spirits: Peated American Single Malt (Purchase Here)
As a bourbon drinker the word peat brings me a ton of fear. It reminds me of a trip with friends where someone bought peated scotch shots for us all without telling us. Needless to say that wasn’t the shot I wanted at a bar. However, since that time I have ventured to try more whiskeys with a peated or smoky elements. Lost Lantern previously has a peated American single malt in one of their line ups that helped me come to respect the peat. This whiskey that we are tasting for todays review however had a variant at Whiskey Live with the Boulder Spirits team.
Just the facts:
Proof: 148.94
Age: 5-years-old
Mash bill: 100% Malted Barley
Style: Peated Single Malt
Jake’s tasting notes: of Boulder Spirits Peated American Single Malt
Nose: the smoky elements show up right at the front, however you get very dark stone fruits and a hint of smoked meats.
Palate: the smoky elements shine, but it isn’t campfire it’s barbecue type notes. Towards the back of the palate sweeter notes show up such as citrus and stone fruit.
Finish: Long finish, with tons of flavor.
Closing Thoughts:
If you are a fan of barbecue this would be a whiskey you might fall in love with. It’s a proofy whiskey so be ready for maybe just one pour of this whiskey at a time.
