Cedar Ridge: 6-year-old Iowa Straight Malted Rye Whiskey
There aren’t many malted rye whiskeys on the market, only a few come to mind so this peaks one peaked my interest. It does differ some as it’s 4 grain vs 100% malted rye so excited to dive in!
Just the facts:
Proof: 120.3
Age: 6-years-old
Mash bill: 51% malted rye, 34% cereal rye, 12% Iowa corn, 3% malted barley
Style: Rye Whiskey
Jake’s tasting notes:
Nose: Very typical rye notes on the nose, citrus, cinnamon and vanilla
Palate: the palate keeps with the vibrate nose, has some sour/ puckering notes of lemon warhead, the traditional rye spice is there throughout the palate, very refreshing.
Finish: smooth subtle finish
Closing Thoughts:
If you listened to our Off Hours Episode with Sam Montgomery of Bardstown Bourbon Co. you know where I’m headed with this if not check out the episode here. This might be the perfect whiskey for a hot toddy! This pour embodies a fall rye whiskey.
