Breucklen Distilling: 8-year-old New York Malted Wheat Whiskey
When I opened up the latest round of Lost Lantern this one peaked my interests for so many reasons: the name, the style and the proof. What I quickly found out that this one would be my favorite of the five batches.
Just the facts:
Proof: 138.9
Age: 8-years-old
Mash bill: 100% malted red wheat
Style: Wheat Whiskey
Jake’s tasting notes:
Nose: call me crazy but on the nose is cream soda, it reminds me of an old timey ice cream float. There are hints of nutmeg, cinnamon and spice on the backend as well.
Palate: on the palate right off the bat it reminds me of a rye whiskey: spicy and fruit forward. On the second drink the malt shines through giving flavors of cinnamon and creamy mouthfeel.
Finish: tingles for a long while, but not in the chest just on the tongue and side of the mouth.
Closing Thoughts:
While recording a recent podcast this pour of whiskey just disappeared. I was shocked after reaching back for the 2oz sample of how easy of a drinker it was for nearly 140 proof. This will be a distillery the Bourbon Lens checks out in 2023.
