BLANCO, Texas (February 14, 2025) – Marlene Holmes, master distiller of Milam & Greene Whiskey, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone as one of the first American women—and the only female distiller in the U.S.—to be inducted into Whisky Magazine’s Hall of Fame. Recognized as one of the highest honors in the spirits industry, this award acknowledges Holmes’ exceptional contributions to whiskey. The induction ceremony took place on February 13, 2025, at the historic Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky.
A Trailblazer in Whiskey
The Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made a lasting and profound impact on the spirits industry. Holmes now joins an elite group of fewer than 100 industry icons—including Elmer T. Lee (Buffalo Trace), Jimmy Russell (Wild Turkey), and Parker Beam (Heaven Hill)—who have shaped the modern whiskey landscape.
“Marlene’s induction into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards is a win not only for her but also for Milam & Greene Distillery and the Texas whiskey industry,” said Marsha Milam, founder of Milam & Greene Whiskey. “Her influence reaches far beyond distilling. She’s inspiring the next generation of whiskey makers while drawing in new consumers with her fearless spirit, ensuring that her legacy will endure for years to come.”
From Jim Beam to Milam & Greene: A Legendary Career
Holmes’ journey began in 1990 at Jim Beam in Kentucky, where she worked under the legendary Booker Noe, a pioneer of the small-batch bourbon movement. Over nearly three decades at Beam, she mastered the art of whiskey-making and contributed to the production of over 1,400 barrels a day.
Seeking a new challenge, Holmes joined Milam & Greene in 2018, bringing her deep knowledge to Blanco, Texas. Instantly, she became the most experienced whiskey maker in Texas, helping the brand gain national recognition and critical acclaim. Her influence was further solidified in 2024 when she was named “Master Distiller of the Year” at the Women of Whiskey Awards for her groundbreaking contributions to the craft.
