Louisville-based Michter’s Distillery will release its 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye in June 2025. Known for its small-batch, high-quality American whiskeys, Michter’s continues its tradition of selective barrel releases. This expression is bottled at 92.8 proof (46.4% ABV) with a suggested retail price of $210 in the United States.
Aged Beyond the Label
Unlike many distilleries that release whiskeys strictly based on age, Michter’s bottles only when barrels are deemed ready by the production team. Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson approved this year’s barrels for release. This practice often results in whiskey that is aged longer than the age statement indicates.
Defining a Kentucky Rye Style
Andrea Wilson emphasized that Michter’s rye reflects a distinctly Kentucky style. “One of Michter’s defining characteristics for our rye whiskey is the balance of the beautiful baking spice with fresh citrus and floral underpinned by notes of vanilla, caramel, chocolate and sweet oak,” said Wilson. She noted that this style differs from ryes produced in Indiana and other states.
Revival of Rye Whiskey
Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco highlighted the resurgence of rye in recent decades. “Rye whiskey has deep roots in American whiskey history,” he stated. “The work of the bartenders in the on-premise community to show how great a good American rye is in cocktails was instrumental in bringing this exceptional whiskey category back.”
Industry Recognition
Michter’s was named The World’s Most Admired Whiskey for a second consecutive year in 2024, according to an international vote conducted by UK-based Drinks International. This recognition underscores the brand’s reputation for quality and craftsmanship across its product range, which includes bourbon, rye, sour mash, and American whiskey.
