The Rare Annual Release Bourbon Aged for Two Decades Returns on December 1.
Michter’s Distillery has announced the upcoming release of its 2025 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon, approved by Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. Shipments of this rare and highly anticipated whiskey will begin December 1, arriving at select bars, restaurants, and retailers nationwide.
Aged Two Decades in New American Oak
Aging bourbon in new barrels for two decades presents a significant challenge, requiring precise control over warehouse conditions and barrel management.
“By law bourbon must be aged in a brand new barrel, which imparts flavor, color and oak character more quickly than a used barrel,” said Joseph J. Magliocco, Michter’s President. “To age a whiskey that will taste wonderful after two decades in a first-use barrel is an extremely difficult endeavor that requires a skillful balance of art and science.”
Depth and Complexity Through Intentional Aging
“Details matter when it comes to aging bourbon gracefully,” said Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. “Michter’s 20 Year Bourbon is an exemplary representation of how oak can be used to deepen vanilla, toffee, chocolate, spice, fruit, and confectionery notes that enhance complexity in bourbon.”
The 2025 release is bottled at 114.2 proof (57.1% ABV) and carries a suggested retail price of $1,200 for a 750ml bottle.
A Legacy of Craftsmanship
Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee added, “Our production team takes great pride in offering such a special whiskey. A lot of time and effort goes into maturing these barrels so that they are extraordinary for this release.”
