Midleton Very Rare 50 Year Old Carries A $60,000 luxury price tag.
Cork, Ireland – April 11, 2024 – Midleton Very Rare, renowned as the pinnacle of Irish whiskey, unveils Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Six, the final release in its historic six-year series. This 50-year-old single pot still Irish whiskey, the oldest ever released, marks the 200th anniversary of the Old Midleton Distillery (1825–1975). Limited to fewer than 250 bottles at 53% ABV, this $60,000 masterpiece is the last whiskey from the silent distillery, crafted by Master Distiller Emeritus Max Crockett. Available at select retailers, it’s a rare taste of Irish whiskey history.
A Legacy Concluded: The Last Drops of Old Midleton
Since 2020, the Silent Distillery Collection has honored Old Midleton Distillery with one annual release, each aged 45 to 50 years. Chapter Six, dubbed “The Last Drops,” celebrates the distillery’s legacy with a vibrant single pot still whiskey distilled in 1974. Nurtured by four Master Distillers—Max Crockett, Barry Crockett, Brian Nation, and Kevin O’Gorman—this liquid gold reflects decades of care.
“This whiskey’s excellence comes from its rare distillate, 50-year maturation, and a unique cask,” said Kevin O’Gorman. “It balances aged oak with fresh fruit—a remarkable surprise for an ultra-aged whiskey.”
Craftsmanship in Every Detail
Initially aged in ex-bourbon American oak, the whiskey was married in a bespoke cask crafted by Master Cooper Ger Buckley. Using staves from all five prior Silent Distillery releases, Buckley’s creation adds unparalleled heritage. “Crafting this cask felt like preserving history,” Buckley said.
The whiskey rests in a mouth-blown Waterford crystal decanter, paired with a cabinet by John Galvin. Featuring six rare woods, including blue bird’s eye maple, 18ct gold trim, and reclaimed whiskey vat oak, it’s a fitting tribute to Midleton Very Rare.
