San Francisco, California (October 9, 2024) – Nikka Whisky, Japan’s legendary whisky producer, proudly marks its 90th anniversary. They celebrate this occasion with the release of THE NIKKA NINE DECADES. This limited-edition whisky, available now in the U.S., features a harmonious blend of whiskies from the 1940s through the 2020s. THE NIKKA NINE DECADES is crafted from Nikka’s six distinguished distilleries. These include the iconic Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland. The whisky is a tribute to the company’s legacy. It blends the flavors and stories of nearly a century.

This release blends more than 150 hand-selected whisky batches. These include rare reserves from Nikka’s renowned Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. It is as much about Nikka’s future as it is about its rich past. “Each whisky was selected for its outstanding character,” says Hiromi Ozaki, Nikka Whisky’s Chief Blender, who has carefully crafted a balanced and complex flavor profile in THE NIKKA NINE DECADES. This release truly embodies the brand’s 90-year heritage and the craftsmanship instilled by founder Masataka Taketsuru, often called the “father of Japanese whisky.”

The exclusive, sculpted bottle displays Nikka’s emblem. It is crafted using the historic Edo-bori glass carving method. This serves as a nod to Japanese tradition and artistry. This design first appeared with THE NIKKA 40 Years Old in 2014, symbolizing both legacy and craftsmanship. Each of the 400 bottles available in the U.S. retails at a suggested $3,000, with only 4,000 bottles distributed worldwide.

Tasting Notes for THE NIKKA NINE DECADES

Nose: Opens with the aroma of freshly baked apple pie and sweet raisins, underscored by smoky and antique notes reminiscent of vintage whisky warehouses.
Taste: The palate offers complex layers, with mellow oak, cinnamon spice, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, and hints of apricot jam and maple syrup.
Finish: A harmonious balance of gentle peat and a smooth finish, introducing sweet and sour notes that lead to a delightful, lingering bitterness.

Unfiltered and bottled at 48% ABV, THE NIKKA NINE DECADES offers an intense, unadulterated flavor experience. It celebrates Nikka’s meticulous blending mastery.

For U.S. whisky aficionados, Nikka Whisky is hosting a celebratory pop-up at Martiny’s in New York City. The event will feature cocktails that tell the story of the brand’s 90 years. This two-night event will showcase the history of Nikka Whisky and the legacy left by Masataka Taketsuru.
