Following the first review of the Old Elk Port finished Bourbon, I couldn’t wait to dive into Old Elk Cognac finished bourbon. With a similar proof point and assumed base spirit I’m excited to see what the team has done with the second of three new finished whiskies. Is it better than the Port? Stay tuned for our third review to see how they rank!

Jake’s tasting notes: Old Elk Cognac Finished Bourbon
Nose: The finish on this bourbon is more pungent than the port. With a full rack of baking spices such as clove, cinnamon, chocolate and rounds out with apricot and citrus.
Palate: Cinnamon and chocolate bring forth a bold flavor. It mellows with apricot and peach flavors at the back half of the palate.
Finish: Fruity and drying
Closing Thoughts:
Another very well done finished bourbon. This one is more bold and enhanced the flavors all around. The Old Elk finished in Cognac drinks more bold red wine than the Port finished in the first review.
